What happened: AMD has announced new processor chips designed specifically for AI-enabled business laptops and desktop PCs - the Ryzen PRO 8040 Series for laptops and the Ryzen PRO 8000 Series for desktops.

AMD is positioning them as solutions for enterprises looking to equip their workforce with "AI PCs" capable of handling demanding AI workloads locally.

What to expect:

  • These chips will allow laptops and desktops to run large language models and other AI applications directly on the device instead of relying on cloud computing.

  • And are expected to be integrated into business laptop and desktop models from major OEMs like HP and Lenovo starting Q2 2024.

How it might impact you: For businesses, having localized AI capabilities could enable new AI-driven productivity workflows, data processing, and insights without cloud connectivity or costs.

AMD faces stiff competition from Intel and Nvidia who have also released dedicated AI chips for PCs recently as the AI silicon race intensifies across consumer and enterprise markets.

What happened: Adobe is showcasing groundbreaking generative AI features that will soon be available in Premiere Pro that promises to revolutionized video editing and production processes.

What to expect:

  • The new AI-powered tools will allow video editors to streamline tasks like extending shots, adding or removing objects in scenes, generating b-roll footage from text prompts, and more.

  • These capabilities will be powered by a new video model in Adobe's Firefly AI model family, specifically tailored for video and audio editing in Premiere Pro.

  • It will directly integrate to third-party generative AI models from OpenAI, Pika Labs, Runway and more.

How you can take advantage of it: These generative AI tools could drastically accelerate your editing timelines, opening up new creative possibilities and solving common pain points you typically encounter when creating video content.

What happened: xAI has introduced Grok-1.5V, its first multimodal AI model that can process both text and visual data like documents, diagrams, charts, and photos.

What’s new?

In addition to strong language understanding, Grok-1.5V can now comprehend and reason about a variety of visual inputs.

This allows capabilities like:

  • Translating diagrams into code

  • Answering questions that require understanding images/documents

  • Analyzing real-world scenes and images for spatial reasoning

  • Grok-1.5V shows competitive performance across standard multimodal benchmarks compared to models like GPT-4V and Claude.

  • It particularly excels on a new RealWorldQA dataset testing physical world understanding.

The model will initially be available to select early testers and existing Grok users.

How you can apply it: You can integrate Grok-1.5V to streamline operations that involve complex document and image analyses, such as extracting information from mixed media reports or automating quality control through visual inspections.
