TRENDING AI NEWS

What happened: OpenAI has started rolling out its new advanced voice mode for ChatGPT to a small number of ChatGPT Plus subscribers. This feature, initially showcased at the GPT-4o launch event in May, had been delayed due to safety concerns and similarities to Scarlett Johansson's voice.

Here’s the deets:

  • As advertised last May, the new voice mode is noticeably more capable than the current voice mode, allowing for interruptions and dynamic adjustments to responses.

  • Though video and screen-sharing features, shown in OpenAI’s early demo, will be available at a later date.

  • Advanced Voice Mode uses GPT-4o to detect emotions in users' voices, such as sadness, excitement, or singing.

  • New filters have also been added to recognize and block requests to generate music or other copyrighted audio.

  • The mode will use only four preset voices created with voice actors, avoiding impersonation of individuals or public figures.

OpenAI delayed the release by a month to improve the model's ability to detect and refuse certain content.

💡OpenAI said that they’ve emailed instructions to the initial ‘Alpha’ group chosen for early access. Are you one of them? 👀

What happened: Runway has added a new image-to-video feature to its Gen-3 Alpha AI video model. This update allows users to generate realistic 5 or 10-second videos from still images, in addition to text prompts.

The new feature brings several key capabilities:

  • Users can now upload still images as prompts for video generation, enabling quick and creative input.

  • Videos can be generated in less than a minute from a single image, offering rapid results.

  • These videos maintain a high level of quality and realism, ensuring professional outputs.

  • Pricing is straightforward: five-second videos cost 50 credits, while ten-second videos cost 100 credits.

  • To ensure safety, the model blocks explicit content and videos of well-known figures like politicians.

💡 This update represents another significant step in the rapidly evolving field of AI-generated video, offering exciting possibilities while also highlighting ongoing legal and ethical challenges.

What happened: Meta has announced the release of Segment Anything Model 2 (SAM 2), an advanced AI model that can perform real-time, promptable object segmentation in both images and videos.

This is an upgrade from the original SAM, which was limited to image segmentation.

What can you do with SAM 2:

  • It can segment any object in a video, addressing challenges like fast movement and object occlusion

  • Create cutouts with just a few clicks. You can try the free demo here.

  • Meta is also open-sourcing the model and providing a large annotated database of 50,000 videos used for training.

💡SAM 2 is a breakthrough in AI's capability to understand and manipulate visual content. It opens up new possibilities for video editing, mixed reality experiences, and scientific research.
